What we do
Austin Metro Trails and Greenways (AMTG) is a non-profit community organization dedicated to the vision of an Austin interconnected by trails and greenways, where any front door in the city is just a ten minute walk from the trail.
Founded in 1994 as a partnership of public agencies, non-profit organizations, private businesses and concerned individuals, AMTG has since:
- Built a membership roster of over 300
- Helped win the November 1998 bond election, which provides funding opportunities for park and greenway development throughout the city
- Formed partnerships with neighborhood associations, elected officials, business and non-profit organizations to develop master plans for greenways along Shoal Creek and Walnut Creek
- Formulated a Vision Plan for the Austin metropolitan area which includes 70 greenway corridors totaling over 400 miles in length
- Organized trail clean-ups and stewardship programs for many of our urban creeks
- Begun development of neighborhood greenway advocacy groups and projects for Pease Park, Bartholomew Park and Springdale Park
